So far, the vacation is great. We have been very busy doing pretty much nothing. We wake up whenever, hang out on the deck overlooking the ocean then head down to the beach for a little while. Friday we spent most of the day at the beach playing Scrabble and swimming.
Saturday, we went on a tour of the island in our golf cart and found another completely empty beach that we swam at for a while, the drove around some more and a short walking trail down to a rocky cove. Surprisingly, there are cactus on this island. Here are Kristen and I doing a cactus impersonation. My cactus has a big lump in the middle...
This little island is a very cool place. The locals are friendly and welcoming and the peace and quiet are fantastic. All I can hear at night when falling asleep are the waves crashing below, the wind in the palms and the cicadas chirping.
Today we will spend the day sailing from St. Thomas to St. John. I think there will be some snorkeling involved. The sail boat captain promised calm waters, so hopefully he delivers on that promise. Seasick is bad enough, seasick and pregnant might be completely unbearable. My dysfunctional inner ears are the bane of my existence.
It is snowing in D.C.

The View from Here
Needless to say, we are enjoying our Virgin Islands vacation so far. We are staying on Water Island, which is a tiny (400 acre) island 10 min by water ferry from St Thomas. Our rental house is very nice, and everyone on this little island drives golf carts on the roads instead of cars.
Our entire goal on this vacation is to relax and enjoy the beach, sun and views. So far, check, check and check.
Not to rub it in for those of you in the cold parts of the country, but it is about 80 and breezy with scattered clouds and blue skies. I did not realize how much I missed tropical breezes.

Off to the Virgin Islands
We are off on vacation tomorrow! Our flight departs at 9 am, by evening we will be relaxing in the tropical breeze. I will post some pictures from the islands, but nothing as exciting as our usual vacation adventures what with the growing belly and the mending toes.
Speaking of the growing belly...
Me and the pole lamp. I am very happy to have the pole lamp back and working!

Update
Unfortunately, I have been suffering from a bad cold since last weekend - I went to bed Sunday night feeling like something was coming on and by Monday morning it was full-blown. I had to travel to Williamsburg/Yorktown for work on Monday and Tuesday so I could not rest as much as I probably needed to, so the congestion and overall ick are just hanging on. It was good to see the Meuses while I was down there - and actually, they are here now! joe has a meeting at Headquarters for work on Wed, so the whole family came up yesterday. It is great to hang out - it is great to be close enough to host friends!
No pictures of sick Amy - I promise a new photo when I am well.
In other news, we are going on vacation next week! We are flying to the Virgin Islands on Wed for a week of lying in the sun and tanning my big belly and Tommy's broken toes...

New Year, New Adventures
Happy New Year to everyone... you may think I am a few days late, but today is the first day of MY new year. I am 34 today - and making a resolution to return to updating this blog with the adventures in Washington DC, and in just a few months....
Adventures in Parenting! We are busy around here preparing for our new arrival in mid-April and adjusting to the faster pace of life in Washington DC. Tom and I really like it here, we have been pleasantly surprised by how much we like DC. We live in a great neighborhood and are certainly enjoying the closer proximity to family and friends. The cold weather is getting old (yes, already).
So, welcome back to my blog - I am going to try to keep up better (since it can't get worse), and hopefully find a way to change the title, but not the URL.
